Resolve, extract, and sort DNS records

Query a public DNS-over-HTTPS resolver, extract answer data, remove JSON quoting, sort values, and deduplicate them.

Install in Serialize

What it can do

  • Perform a bounded A-record lookup
  • Extract only DNS answer values
  • Normalize, sort, and deduplicate the addresses

How the recipe works

DNS over HTTPS

Send the domain and record type to Cloudflare's public resolver.

JPath expression

Select only Answer data fields.

Find / Replace

Remove JSON string quotes.

Sort

Sort values as IPv4 addresses.

Unique

Remove repeated answers.

Demonstration

Sample input

example.com

Expected result

A sorted list of IPv4 answers returned for example.com.

When to use it

  • DNS troubleshooting
  • Network-data lessons
  • Connected-workflow demonstrations

Adapt it

Change the request type to AAAA, MX, TXT, or another supported record while keeping the extraction path under review.

Source and verification

Adapted from Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 DNS over HTTPS. The explanation and sample are written for Serialize, use synthetic or documentation-safe data, and are checked against the current operation catalogue. The network boundary is stated above and the request is manual.
